An automotive parts catalog contains valuable information for identifying replacement components. However, catalogs can include technical codes, diagrams and multiple applications that may be confusing at first. Understanding the basic structure makes parts research much easier.

Start With the Vehicle Application

First identify the vehicle information shown in the catalog.

Look for:

Model
Production year
Engine
Transmission
Body type
Market
Production period

Do not select a part based only on the vehicle model name.

Find the Correct Parts Group

Most catalogs divide components into groups.

Confirm Before Ordering

After finding a part number, verify it using:

Vehicle + production date + engine + OE number + application notes

This extra step can prevent many parts-ordering mistakes.
